Executive Function Skill Building Accountability Group for Adults


WHEN:
Tuesdays and Thursdays—12pm-1pm CT for 12 weeks

  • Begins Tuesday, August 29, 2023

  • Last session is Thursday, November 16, 2023

LOCATION:
Online video platform (Cameras are strongly encouraged)

COST:
$35/hour – Full 12-week attendance required

  • Small groups to allow for easier chatting and discussion

  • Skill acquisition and time to practice skills in a workshop format

  • Daily check-in with coach via chat

  • Facilitated group accountability chat between sessions

INFO:
This 12-week group will support in building skills to create and achieve goals. Each week we will focus on an area of executive function, how to structure a plan so that we see results in the specific area of life that we want to focus, and how to track progress towards our goals.  Daily individual and group accountability support will be provided along the way.  Individuals located anywhere in the US are able to attend virtually.

  • Week 1: Introduction to Course and Executive Functioning and Review Results

    This week we will explore executive function skills and what each area involves as well as an introduce the creation of goals. Attendees will be provided with an opportunity to take the BRIEF-A on their own to obtain personalized executive function information. We will begin to evaluate this information and organize it in a user-friendly way to help with goal setting, action planning, and developing a tracking system.

  • Week 2: Understanding Your Value System and Increasing Flexibility and Perspective (Emotional Regulation)

    We will look at values and how to determine what our values are in relation to the various life domains. In doing so, we will evaluate where we currently are in terms of living effectively within our value system while practicing strategies to help us with mindfulness.

  • Week 3: Furthering Flexibility Skills (Cognitive Shift) and Resisting Impulses (Response Inhibition and Emotional Regulation)

    Attendees will further their knowledge of various mindfulness strategies and practice using these skills.

  • Week 4: The Impact We Want To Have On Others (Self-Monitor)

    This week we will evaluate how we are behaving in terms of our interactions with other people. We will learn and practice different strategies to help us evaluate our boundaries and the impact our behavior has on ourselves and others.

  • Week 5: Organization of Materials

    Developing systems of organization will be the focus of this week. Identifying what organization is, what it looks like, and what comes into play to obtain an organized space is discussed.

  • Week 6: Getting Tasks Started (Task Initiation)

    Starting a task can be challenging and frustrating. We will discuss different ways to help us get going on a task by identifying the various obstacles that may be preventing us from beginning.

  • Week 7: Getting Stuff Done (Planning and Organizing)

    This week and next week we will take a deep dive into how to actually accomplish those tasks, projects, chores, and to-do lists that can sometimes seem like they never get completed.

  • Week 8: Continued focus on Getting Stuff Done (Planning and Organizing)

    Week 8 will be a continuation of what we started to discuss in Week 7. The strategies, skills, and exercises will be examined and practiced in further detail this week.

  • Week 9: Time Management and Attention (Working Memory)

    We will focus on how to manage our time effectively to achieve what it is that we are setting out to achieve.

  • Week 10: Breaking It All Down and Remembering (Working Memory)

    In Week 10 we will address skills and strategies to help us break down larger tasks and remember what we set out to do.

  • Week 11: Monitoring Our Progress (Task Monitoring)

    This week we will look at how we intend to adjust our plan in the moment by addressing various ways to monitor our progress as we proceed forward with a specific task.

  • Week 12: Summing It All Up–and Using It All Going Forward

    During our last week, we will evaluate our progress throughout the course by continuing the self-reflection process. In doing so we will be able to identify areas that we may need additional support and guidance so that we can continue to use our new skills and strategies going forward.

    • **Weeks 3-12 will include time for personalized goal setting, reflection, and collaboration.**

This group is designed for anyone wanting increased awareness and support in executive functioning, creating action plans, setting goals, and learning skills to reduce barriers.  It will be led by Caren Kangas, an Executive Function and ADHD Coach.  Caren has a background in Education and Applied Behavior Analysis.
