Safe and Sound Protocol™
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is based on years of extensive research by Dr. Stephen Porges and formed from the understanding of Polyvagal Theory. It is a powerful listening therapy designed to help regulate the nervous system by stimulating the vagus nerve and supporting you in attuning to cues of safety so you can better connect to yourself and others around you. This protocol is evidence-based and has been utilized in clients with nervous system dysregulation, such as clients with Autism, ADHD, sensory processing difficulties, trauma, anxiety, and depression.
SSP is used alongside the therapeutic process; it is not meant as a standalone intervention. SSP is a 5-hour listening protocol that works unconsciously on the nervous system to help enhance one's neuroception; the amount of time spent listening is flexible and can be broken up over days and weeks depending on one's needs and nervous system feedback. SSP helps to disrupt the cycles of unhelpful nervous system dysregulation and support increased cueing into signs of safety. The work with a clinician will more consciously support recognition of one's state of regulation and utilize strategies to get back to a state of regulation and meaningful engagement more readily through different therapeutic modalities (such as ACT, DBT, I-CBT, EMDR, WET utilized within this practice).
SSP is available to active clients within Guiding Behavior Counseling, PLLC who are working with certified SSP clinicians. There are no additional costs since SSP is utilized within and between sessions to enhance and accelerate the therapeutic process.
